Welcome to the Euchre Club!
What is "Euchre"?!
Euchre is a trick-taking card game involving 4 players and fixed
partners. What is a trick you say? What's with the partners you say? Let me try and
explain. To win a game of euchre, you and your partner must
get to 10 points before the opposing pair reaches 10 points. Each hand, the team that calls
the suit to be played (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades) must make at least three of the five
'tricks' to earn points, if they get less than three 'tricks', they have been 'euchred', and
the other team receives points. A 'trick' is won by the person that plays the most
powerful card
(not necessarily an ace). Hopefully some of that is understandable, it only skims the
surface of the game though. The best way to learn is to play!
What is the Euchre Club?
The Euchre Club is a Feds club made up of euchre enthusiasts. We meet once
a week to play euchre and socialize with fellow members in a relaxed playing atmosphere. More
simply, we spend a few hours each week playing euchre, drinking soda and talking.
We will hold two or three tournaments in the course of a term, some during
weekly meeting time.
How do I sign up?
You can join the euchre club simply by showing up to a meeting. We can also
be found at club days (which occurs at the beginning of each term) and by e-mail
(uweuchre@uweuchre.clubs.feds.ca).
There is a $2 fee charged by the Euchre Club for a one-term membership.
What do I get when I become a member?
Becoming a member means you get free Pop at each and every euchre meeting!
Membership also allows you to participate in tournaments (which may result in you winning some
pretty sweet prizes!),
and we also keep track of member's playing statistics throughout the term.
Final standings and statistics are posted on the web and displayed at the end of
term meeting.
